The ABSA U-17 squad training with Coca Cola league 2 club Torquay United have had a record breaking tour . Six boys were signed by Torquay and one was offered a contract by championship club Coventry city.
The U-17 team trained full time for over five months in preparation for these trials. The UK clubs were so impressed they urged us to bring our next batch of U-16 over in three months so that they can be offered apprenticeships and scholarships.
The boys singled out for contracts were Sait Guler, Josh Calle, Josh Bowen, Nicholas Scerri, Mark Blanco, Jarrad Preston.
Nicholas and Sait impressed so much they were put on the team sheet by Torquay to play against Plymouth Argyle on the 23rd Jan 2010 in an official FA fixture. Both started and finished the game and were very impressive, Nicholas contributing to both goals.
Sait was interviewed by BBC before the game. The whole ABSA team were impressive right through the tour and got onto Sky Sports, made the back page of The Herald.
Mark flintoft and Stuart Mc Kenzie were very impressive in the U-15's group and were asked to come back too.
Joel and Mikey Bowen impressed in the U-12's and Joel was promoted to the U-14's after just one session as he was too advanced for his own age group.
